Engage your audience by creating a feedback loop

Engagement has become a nebulous (or meaningless) term. Here's a definition with tactical guidance for how to bring audiences into your journalism.

What exactly does audience engagement mean? For Jennifer Brandel, CEO of Hearken, engagement “happens when members of the public are responsive to newsrooms, and newsrooms are in turn responsive to members of the public. It’s a feedback loop.”

In a post on Medium, Brandel explains the value of feedback from your audience and points out that audience engagement will not happen if “there’s no pathway for input from your audience to shape the content decisions your newsroom is making.”
