Getting started in mobile journalism

Mobile journalists have powerful tools in their pockets, but that doesn’t mean you’re guaranteed to capture high-quality content. These tips, tricks, and suggestions (including accessories and apps) will help ensure your shots, clips and recordings are top-notch.

Several mobile-powered journalists share their tips for using phones on the go. Some basic tips includ cleaning the phone’s lens before shooting photos or video (even a small dust speck can ruin a shot) and locking exposure and focus. On the audio front, it helps to use an external microphone, but if you can’t, just make sure you’re not covering the mic when you’re holding the phone.
