How a ‘growth editor’ can turn your audience vision into reality

Here’s how emerging roles like growth editors are taking shape in newsrooms and ensuring that great journalism finds the right audiences.

The growth editor is one type of audience development role emerging in newsrooms. As explained by Lymari Morales, managing director of Atlantic Media Strategies, a “growth editor” is specifically in charge of growing the audience for an organization’s work, with daily responsibilities that include mining analytics, crafting content for specific social and digital platforms and pursuing content partnerships.

“Given their obsessive focus on audience needs, social media, and analytics, growth editors amass useful insights into what makes great content,” says Morales. “They often independently produce content tailored for specific platforms and advise other content creators on the best angles and approaches to reach their audience.”
