Use this guide by ProPublica to build collaborative data projects

ProPublica is well known for collaborations, especially in projects dealing with a large volume of data. Use their guide to learn how your newsroom can work on projects like these too.

ProPublica is well known for collaborative projects with other newsrooms and independent journalists, especially ones dealing with a large volume of data, such as Electionland and Documenting Hate. Now, in partnership with the Google News Initiative, they have launched the Collaborative Data Journalism Guide to help other news organizations think about data projects and how to best leverage resources to produce these types of projects.

The guide includes descriptions and explanations on types of collaborations, where to start a project like this, sharing and crowdsourcing data sets and workflow management, among other topics.

They also announced they are developing an open-source version of the software they have built to manage large collaborative data sets.
